A MAN was shot dead in Freeport on Tuesday, pushing the homicide count on the island of Grand Bahama to 13 this year.

Police received reports of gunshots heard in the Fawcett Lane area and on arrival discovered the lifeless body of a man on the side of the road.

Inspector Terecita Pinder reported that the victim had sustained gunshot wounds to the body.

“We are in the early stages of our investigations and we are aggressively combing the area, and speaking to the public about what happened and what they may have seen,” she said.

The identity of the victim was not released up to press time on Tuesday, and police are continuing their investigation into this murder.

Two weeks earlier, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Emrick Seymour, officer in charge of the Grand Bahama District, reported that the murder rate for Grand Bahama remained around the same to date compared to last year and assured residents that Grand Bahama is safe.

At the time, police had solved 10 of the 12 murders this year. And ACP Seymour noted that most of the murders committed were the result of unresolved differences between persons.

Anyone with information that can assist the police with their investigation into this latest incident is asked to call 911, 919, or the nearest police station.
