An estimated 100 business and political luminaries in Prince George’s County, Maryland, attended “An Evening in The Bahamas” cocktail reception on Monday, August 8, 2016, at the Fort Washington, Maryland, home of Ms. Paulette Zonicle, Bahamas Consul General to Washington, D.C.
The event was hosted by His Excellency Dr. Eugene G. Newry, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, and Consul General Zonicle, whose residence is located in Prince George’s County.
His Excellency Dr. Elliston Rahming, Bahamas Ambassador to the United Nations, joined Ambassador Newry and Consul General Zonicle in welcoming guests as they arrived for the event.

Dr. Rahming, who is also The Bahamas’ Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), currently is Chair of the OAS Permanent Council, a position he assumed on July 1 for a period of three months, ending on September 30.
In brief welcoming remarks, the three Bahamian diplomats noted that The Bahamas is not only one of the world’s leading vacation destinations, but it also offers tremendous business opportunities for potential investors.

Several members of the Prince George’s County Council also gave brief remarks, including Council Chairman Derrick Leon Davis, Council Member for District 6, who thanked Consul General Zonicle for hosting the event and said that they were pleased that she chose to reside in P.G. County.
MC for the evening was Stacii Jae Johnson, actress, radio personality and television host, who conducted a “game” with the guests, for which the prize was a trip to Freeport, Grand Bahama, won by Mr. Larry Spriggs, President and CEO of Soft-Con Enterprises, Inc.
In addition to enjoying Bahamian music, guests were treated to a taste of The Bahamas, including rosemary roasted lamb, peas and rice, bread pudding and guava duff, and conch fritters.
