The Gym Tennis Club has announced that the 24th edition of its annual AID Clay Court Tennis Championships will be held again at the club in Winton Meadows, this time from August 13-27.

Jason Watson, president and managing director of Automotive Industrial Distributors Ltd. (AID), said that they were proud and pleased to continue their sponsorship in the event's 24th year.

The "AID", as the tournament is commonly known, is one of the most popular events on the local tennis calendar. Anthony Burrows, acting president of The Gym Tennis Club, said: "The gym is again happy to host and grateful to AID for their long-standing commitment to local tennis."

The tournament, which is sanctioned by the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA), will feature competition in nine categories -- gentlemen's and ladies open singles and doubles, gentlemen's junior vets singles and doubles and mixed doubles, and to highlight the up-and-coming junior stars, the boys and girls under-18 singles. Competitors are allowed to enter a maximum of three events. Cash prizes will be awarded to all adult winners and trophies will also be presented to all finalists.

The entry deadline is Wednesday August 10 at 6 p.m., and entries can be requested from and returned by e-mail to aidclaycourts@hotmail.com or delivered to the Gym Tennis Club in Winton Meadows before that time. Entry forms are available at the two AID outlets at Wulff Road and the Mall at Marathon, the Gym Tennis Club, the BLTA's National Tennis Centre and other local clubs.

The entry fees are $15 for each singles and $10 per player for each doubles competition. All entrants must be fully paid-up members of the BLTA. The draws for all divisions will take place at the Gym Tennis Club on Thursday August 11, at 6 p.m.
