Building on its third successful year, the Hack Bahamas team on Friday announced a partnership with INROADS, a U.S. multi-cultural non-profit focused on development and career preparation for talented, underserved youth.

Under the partnership, five Hack Bahamas participants will be offered salaried internships and career-development training each year for two years at Fortune 1000 companies throughout the U.S. and Caribbean. The program will begin in Summer 2017.

Selected students will work in the engineering, math or accounting, hospitality and tourism, and entrepreneurship sectors. Participating companies will be announced at a later date.

“At INROADS, we believe that innovation and collective impact through partners such as Hack will fuel the next generation of stem leaders,” said Forest Harper Jr., CEO of INROADS. “Despite massive resources devoted to STEM education, there is still a lack of awareness and actual practice in communities. This partnership with Hack will help us overcome this challenge and build future leaders.”

Aisha Bowe, co-founder of Hack Bahamas and CEO of camp sponsor STEMBoard, praised the partnership as a unique opportunity for high school and college students to put into practice the skills they have learned through hands-on activities taught by experienced engineers, technologists and entrepreneurs.

“STEMBoard is honored to partner with INROADS to provide world-class development opportunities,” Bowe said. “This will allow our Hack participants to apply their new skills outside the classroom.”

The public is invited to the formal announcement at the final day of Hack Bahamas 2016, scheduled for Saturday, July 23, at St. Andrew’s School in Nassau. Aviator Barrington Irving, the youngest person to fly around the world solo, will deliver a keynote address.
