A MAN was remanded to prison without bail yesterday after he was arraigned in connection with a recent home invasion and the attempted killing of a man in an inner-city community.

Hykame Knowles, 29, of Yellow Elder Gardens appeared before Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes facing a charge of burglary and attempted murder.

It is alleged that around 2am on July 15 he broke into the house of Christina Musgrove at McCullough Corner and intentionally attempted to kill Timothy Ferguson.

Knowles is not allowed to enter a plea to the allegations until his formal arraignment before a Supreme Court judge.

The accused was told that his case would be fast-tracked to the higher court at a hearing on August 2 where a voluntary bill of indictment is expected to be presented to him.

The chief magistrate told Knowles that the court did not have the discretion to consider or grant bail on the charges and he was remanded to the Department of Correctional Services.

However, he was informed of his right to apply for bail in the Supreme Court.
