College of the Bahamas president and scholar in residence Keva Bethel died at Doctor’s Hospital early this morning following a grave illness.

Her passing follows that of her brother Michael Eldon, the first Anglican Bishop of the Bahamas, who died on February 7, and whose funeral will be held at Christ Church Cathedral in George Street, downtown Nassau, at 11am today.

Dr Bethel is survived by her daughter Nicolette Bethel-Burrows and son Edward Bethel, who were at the hospital when she died at around 5am.

Her celebrated 50 year career in education culminated in a 16 year tenure as president of the College of the Bahamas for 16 years.
