Bacon's Attack Doesn't Seem Right

The Clifton Review

The Clifton Review is a bi-weekly column that examines the question of the Clifton project along with the evolution of the war between two billionaires, the links to unsavory characters, the use of the courts for personal agendas, the involvement of the Government opposition party (the FNM), and the attacks on the Government of The Bahamas.

The next few works will address the question of Character.

‘What hedge-fund billionaire Louis Bacon is doing just doesn’t seem right,’ is the sentiment of social activist, Vivian Whylly.

Appearing as a guest on the television show “The Platform”, Vivian Whylly says that he has known fashion mogul Peter Nygard for 30 years, and he, Vivian, is standing on the side that is right.

“As a Bahamian, if my house is burned down, I would like the right to rebuild it. If living in a gated community, it doesn’t seem right for an individual to block access to my personal property.”

Mr. Whylly goes on to say, “Peter Nygard is a friend of The Bahamas. He has proven that he is a friend of The Bahamas. His philanthropy is not based on the political divide but on the needs of our country. When someone satisfies a need, I don’t think it’s a game.”

Vivian Whylly expressed concern about the ongoing fight between the two billionaires and the misrepresentations by Save The Bays and the individuals fighting on behalf of Louis Bacon.

Whylly asserts that the fight between the two is more about Bacon and some Lyford Cay owners wanting to stop Mr. Nygard from allowing so many locals to come ‘behind the gates’ to visit Nygard Cay.

He states, “Louis Bacon always wants us to know what the problem is behind Lyford Cay. But, they wouldn’t tell the Bahamian people that they are guilty of the same things they are accusing Mr. Nygard of. Bacon is using the Bahamian media to make sure they get their way.”

To illustrate his point, Whylly shows a video of both Louis Bacon’s and Peter Nygard’s houses right next to each other. It is evident that Bacon’s marina is deeper than Nygard’s marina, which you can tell from the color of the water; and, Bacon’s marina goes further inland.

The video also shows that a boat is docked underneath Bacon’s house, which means that when Bacon dredged the ocean to build his marina, dredging had to also take place beneath Bacon’s house.

Nygard’s marina is apparently shorter and is reported to have been built after Louis Bacon built his marina.

Whylly added, “I am tired of them wasting our time about they’re going to Save The Bay. Look at what Bacon did even before Nygard. Bacon dredged the seabed. So what is he [CB Moss] talking about? Nothing!”

As to the why? Whylly believes, “This is a bunch of rich people, Mr. Nygard’s neighbours, some of the richest people in the world, who don’t want no black people passing where they live day or night. Peter Nygard is the person responsible for the invitations [to blacks]. They want him out of Lyford Cay.

“I understand why the Prime Minister called it petty foolishness because it’s a petty grievance between two neighbours. One neighbour who says ‘what’s wrong with me inviting black people’, and the other neighbour who says, ‘I don’t want no black people to see where I live.’’

While Whylly expressed having no skin in the game, he continued to voice frustration over the seemingly unfair efforts of Bacon’s people to continuously attack Peter Nygard.

How hypocritical of CB Moss and Save The Bays to rail against Peter Nygard about environmental concerns when Louis Bacon has committed worse sins with his dredging of the seabed; yet, radio silence from CB Moss and Save The Bays. I wonder why. It just doesn’t seem right.
