Let me continue this discussion by giving a correction for the statement in part 1 of my article which says: “Britain changed its ‘Constitution’ to accommodate same-sex marriage.” It should read “Britain changed its ‘Common Law’ instead. The correction was submitted but the first draft of the article was printed. Now, let me address the Referendum on the four Bills proposed by the Constitutional Commission and sanctioned by the Government and Opposition of the Bahamas. After attending several meetings held by, the Commission and the Religious leaders of the Save our Bahamas Campaign, in addition to reading many head-line stories and articles in the newspapers; and also, listening to ZNS, Cable 12 and JCN news stations on this National Issue, I resorted to prayer and the study of God’s Holy Word to guide me into my final decision on the matter.

The four bills on gender equality have brought our Nation at a cross-road which challenges every citizen to vote their conscience either on: spiritual, political, moral, social or financial grounds. Voting from a political, social or financial perspective is to ignore the spiritual and moral values of our Nation and the Constitution. The preamble of the Constitution, lays down the foundation for the principles, benefits and protection rights governing its jurisdiction and giving it authority. What is in the preamble that should guide our revision? Read paragraph 2 and consider the truth.

“AND WHEREAS the People of this Family of Islands recognize that the preservation of their Freedom will be guaranteed by a national commitment to: Self discipline, Industry, Loyalty, Unity and an abiding respect for Christian values and the Rule of Law.” Clearly, Spiritual and Moral values in the Bible are strong guiding principles for this sacred document. Jesus says in Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and Earth shall pass away but My Words will by no means pass away.” Biblical principles and prayer supports my No Vote to all four bills. I am not swayed by insults or foolish remarks thrown at Pastors by MPs, attorneys, the PM or anyone not respecting my God given Freedom of Choice.

The different views given by: Chief Justices past and present, MPs, Pastors, Lawyers and citizens, show National division and confusion rather than unity; and God is not the author of confusion 1 Cor. 14:33.

The first three bills relating to citizenship, on the surface seem to be correcting inequality, however, Dame Joan Sawyer, former CJ, Lawyer Harvey Tynes, C. A. Smith and others gave clear examples of how these bills would cause abuse of the law. Automatic citizenship in the case of a single Bahamian man or woman that are the parents of children born abroad or to foreign mothers, should be monitored in light of Isis terrorist threats, illegal adult migrants who are coveting the lifestyle of other Nations Ex. 20:17. Acts 17:26 should guide our judgment for security and caution knowing that immigrants are loyal to the Nation and family of their birth. Many, granted Bahamian citizenship, remain loyal to their birth Nation.

The fourth Bill is still ambiguous with lots of loopholes as noted by retired Justice Neville Adderley, in Monday, June 6th, Guardian, National Review section 1, p.1. He said that if the 4th amendment passes in the referendum, a same-sex couple, who marries in the USA, Canada or Europe, would have a new argument to make in a Bahamian court, if they seek to have their marriage recognized in the Bahamas. Under the new law a judge would have to consider that they were married legally in another country and should not be discriminated against on the basis of being male, female or a person married to a male or female. Romans 1:25 – 29, 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10 and Hebrews 13:4 shows God’s disapproval of same-sex relationships and His sustained blessings on heterosexual marriages. For these reasons I Vote No to all 4 bills and I look forward to them being re-written and represented considering Biblical and Moral values. God, through many persons signaled, A Call to National Unity through Prayer. Will the Nation respond? What would God have to do to get our attention; must He shake up these islands?
