Throw away your crutchs

Now I've spoken to a whole lot of people over the years, at seminars, lectures and to others who ask me for advice. When I give these people a recipe for success in life, the people whom I'm specifically referring to here today will, with an extremely negative look on their face in all probability say something along these lines. You don't understand Dr. Reilly, my parents were extremely poor so I didn't get a good education as I had to leave school when I was just 14 and go to work, so how do you expect me to be successful?

Yes indeed, there are unfortunately a whole lot of people who are using all sorts of ridiculous, yes ridiculous excuses to try to justify exactly why they never made anything worthwhile of their lives, why they are such failures. They're using these half-baked excuses as crutches -- which keeps them back from progressing rapidly along the road of life toward success city.

Dr. Denis Waitley in his book "The Winner's Edge" told the story of identical twins who were born in the ghetto. One of the twins never left the ghetto and was a terrible failure all of his life. The other twin left the ghetto and went on to be an outstanding success across the board. Now both twins had the same start in life, however whereas one twin, the one who succeeded said, "I don't like living in the ghetto, I want to be somebody, and who went on to be a great success, the other twin kept saying, "I'm born in the ghetto so I'll never amount to anything," and thus he failed miserably in life. He used the circumstances of his birth as a crutch. How very sad!

My friend, I want everyone in my reading audience who has not done too well in life to date, to take the instructions given in today's title very seriously and thus throw away your crutches. Stop making ridiculous excuses for your failures in life. Start today to develop a positive upbeat attitude toward life by setting some goals for yourself to reach the highest peak, the summit of success. You can do it once you stop making excuses and make what you want to happen, happen!
