Once again, the College of The Bahamas (COB) welcomes young student-athletes looking to improve in their respective sporting disciplines while gaining an understanding of what it takes to be a collegiate athlete, to its annual camp.

The 9th Annual COB Summer Sports Camp is scheduled for June 20 to July 15, and will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, on the college's grounds. The camp is open to boys and girls ages eight to 13, and the sporting disciplines that will be offered at the camp include swimming, basketball, track and field and soccer.

Camp Coordinator Sean Bastian said that over 100 campers attended the month-long event last year, and this year, he expects a similar outcome.

"Unlike the other summer programs where the campers have to choose which sport they want to take part in, at COB, they'll get the opportunity to experience a taste of all of the sports offered at the college," said Bastian.

"When you attend this camp, you get a full scope of what we have to offer. Every hour we switch to another discipline. There is something new being taught every day, and at the end of the month, I guarantee that parents will see a great improvement in their child's skills in those disciplines."

Bastian is the assistant athletics director at the college, and he will be assisted by a number of athletes and coaches from COB.

"The goal of the camp is to not only provide individual training, but leadership and skill training as well," he said.

"My thing is, when these kids graduate high school, they see the college, soon to be the University of The Bahamas, as thier first choice in terms of selecting a college. While here, the kids become accustomed to the college's campus and the environment. I have my instructors take them on tours of the school to get them accustomed. I've seen a lot of students who attended the camp in past years enrolled at the college now, and I'm hoping that can continue."

Along with sports, the campers will be taken on a number of field trips to Galleria Cinemas, Mario's Bowling and Family Entertainment Palace and EduCulture Bahamas. The cost of the camp is $190 for the full month, $165 for three weeks, $135 for two weeks and $110 per week.

Interested persons are asked to contact the college's athletic department at 302-4349 or e-mail Bastian at sean.bastian@cob.edu.bs.
