With the knowledge that developing healthy habits starts with the next generation, the fitness experts at Club One are determined to do their part to help make significant health changes in the community, including assisting in dropping the national obesity rate. To that end, they will target children between the ages of 10 and 17 to participate in their B-FYTT (Bahamas Fit Youth Today and Tomorrow) initiative.

On Saturday, Club One Fitness Centre will launch B-FYTT, a free community fitness program designed to educate youth on exercise and nutrition, help build healthy habits, and create self-esteem and discipline through sports and activity.

Through B-FYTT Dianne Gibson, Club One's assistant manager says they hope to encourage and introduce fitness to Bahamian youth, provide exercise and nutrition instruction in a fun and encouraging environment.

They hope to encourage the youth to seek to pursue athletics either socially, competitively or as a career path; create a fun, safe environment for social interaction; and instill confidence and pride in the youth by giving them healthy social activities to participate in.

During the free event, the children and young adults will be able to participate in a B-FYTT exercise class while parents attend a general information meeting and question and answer session.

"We are targeting children ages 10-17 and specifically underprivileged youth and/or children and young adults that are not currently involved in sports or activities and are at risk of developing illnesses and conditions due to sedentary lifestyle," said Gibson.

"We will be offering the classes as a  community initiative to help lower our national obesity rate, introduce fitness in a fun and supportive environment, and to create healthier habits in the youth."

The program will include safe and effective exercises, valuable health and nutrition information, team building and self-esteem building exercises, and programs to develop self-discipline and motivation.

"We know that developing healthy habits in our nation starts with the next generation and we are determined to make significant health changes in our community, including dropping the national obesity rate.

The launch party will feature vendors from the health and fitness industry, free blood pressure and glucose testing for adults and kids and samples of delicious, healthy food alternatives.

BYFTT is expected to continue as a free summer program, and as school presentations and field trips during the school year targeting a variety of activities and health topics relevant to youth, educating them in a fun and interactive way.
