Minnis with ideas is an oxymoron

Dear Editor,

Please permit me space in your daily to respond to a letter which appeared in your edition of Saturday, April 23, 2016.

The letter is written by one Delvin Rolle, who seems to be a cipher for Dr. Hubert Minnis. He laments the alleged theft by Loretta Butler-Turner of ideas apparently coined by Minnis to facilitate the resolution of the Baha Mar debacle. The letter is titled "Give Minnis credit for his ideas".

Rolle is apparently incensed by Butler-Turner's alleged larceny of Minnis' creative energy so that the voting public is denied the opportunity to give him credit for the full force of his genius already at work for the nation.

Are we being told that Minnis is a diamond in the rough, a veritable light hidden under the bushel? What absolute nonsense and utter foolishness. This letter is a classic and sad example of thinking in oxymorons.

Butler-Turner is an accomplished woman, an astute and agile politician, and noted parliamentarian in her own right. Moreover, to my knowledge, she is ably assisted by a cadre of skilled people. To accuse her of stealing ideas from Minnis would be like accusing a respectable brand name of stealing ideas from a company making generic products.

Minnis has not demonstrated a capacity for sensible ideas. In fact, he is an intellectual void. Such neurological impulses as traverse the Saharan terrain of his pre-frontal cortex typically convey sound bites usually belonging to someone else inefficiently transmitted and incompetently extrapolated because he lacks basic political skills. The instances of this are legion and have been faithfully reported by the media.

Moreover Minnis' lack of political skills have again recently been on full display for the entire nation to see with the Bobo/Toggie/Save the Bays affair, including during the mid-term budget debate when Perry Christie wiped the floor with Minnis. Thus, to embezzle ideas there must first be ideas to steal. Rolle's case fails on this preliminary ground. The idea is laughable.

If Rolle is Minnis' friend, the most charitable thing he can do for him, and in fact for the country, is to advise the good doctor and his allies to stop whining about supposed media bias and to actually come up with some ideas which make sense.
