THE five Cuban nationals who escaped from the Carmichael Road Detention Centre over the weekend were discovered by armed forces Monday, with four of them found hiding in the ceiling of an abandoned building in western New Providence and taken into custody after an island-wide manhunt.

One of the men, The Tribune understands, was found wandering in the vicinity of the Detention Centre and led a team to a waterside dilapidated villa in western New Providence where the four remaining Cubans were seeking refuge. The team responsible for capturing the men was headed by the Department of Immigration, along with police officers, and the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF).

While the police are holding the Cuban men and intend to file charges against them, an investigation is underway to determine whether they received assistance from workers stationed at the Detention Centre, an official confirmed.

Yasmani Rojas Marrero, Arsenio Morales Perez, Amaury/Amaurles Perez Vega, Raudel Daniel Oranzabal Reyes and Alexander Gonzales Gonzales escaped from the centre around 10pm on Saturday.

The RBDF released a statement Monday confirming that the men were taken into custody at around 12:30pm.
