A 13-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted by a group of men who attempted to rape her on Sunday while she was riding on a bus, a senior police officer reported last week.

Superintendent Elsworth Moss, who heads the Central Police Station, told The Nassau Guardian that the matter is under active police investigation and would be brought to a close soon.

"The information is that these men may have been facilitated by the bus driver who may have gone off route apparently to allow these men to behave in such a manner," Moss said.

He said it is alleged that the girl was able to escape any other sexual advances after she jumped out of the window of the bus.

Moss said he could not give any information on her injuries.

He said there were about four men on the bus at the time. The girl was reportedly unaccompanied.

Moss said police were actively looking for the driver of the bus.

"We need to bring in the driver and we hope that the driver will lead us to the men on the bus," Moss said. "If not we'll do some additional investigations. We're still trying to do some things to confirm who the driver is."
