The Second Annual ‘Dog Days’ Half Marathon race and Health Expo will be held this Saturday, April 9th, and is shaping up to be fit and healthy. As the first half marathon race in Grand Bahama, this year’s race has shown to be even bigger than last year with more corporate support from the community, over 150 participants pre-registered already and an added health expo after the races.

Bahamas Adventures is hosting the races once again and the expo will be held on their property. They have also given full use of their facilities and water sports toys to ensure the entrants and their families enjoy much needed after race downtime. Bahamas Adventures’ will also be giving back a portion of the day’s sales to the ‘Dog Days’ fundraising for the GB Humane Society.

“We want all the participants to come and enjoy Bahamas Adventures offerings while giving back to such a worthy cause,” said Cesar Ochoa, General Manager at Bahamas Adventures commented. “We couldn’t be more excited to be part of this day for a second year.”

This year Nesbitt Rental’s has come on as a major contributor to the newest event, a full health expo. “We were really excited to join ‘Dog Days’ in this endeavor as we have hosted numerous health expos and have a large following,” said Demeko Nesbitt, Nesbitt’s Rentals Manager. “We will also have our rock climbing wall there for guests to challenge friends and family, and we’ll give out top climbing prizes too.”

The ‘Dogs Day’ Health Expo is set to begin at 9am with over a dozen vendors showcasing locally grown fresh vegetables, health products and of course seafood. Out island vendors like Abaco Neem and The Coconut Factory will travel in from the family islands to participate and share healthy choice options and Bahamian creations. “We really want this to be a place where people interested in healthy lifestyles can find everything they need in one location,” said Nikki Waugh, Event coordinator.

In addition to the expo, there will also be all day workouts choices form various gyms and workout groups on the island. For those not participating in the runs they can begin working out at 9am through 1pm and attendees are encouraged to try the different groups and find a fit for them.

“When we sat back and thought what could we do to enhance our event, as keen exercise buffs, we thought lets add the gym or trainer element,” noted Siobhan Antoni-Bates, event coordinator. “The whole day is about healthy living, eating and exercising.  For those who are not runners or walkers then we have alternate options – and free trials for them to see what they like.”
