Match first step in team’s prep for FIFA 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup

The Bahamas men's national beach soccer team will square off against European powerhouse Switzerland in the Kalik Light Cup April 8 and 9, at the Bahamas Football Association's (BFA) Beach Soccer and Futsal Facility at the foot of the Sir Sidney Poitier Bridge in New Providence.

"The squad has been in training for several months," said Fred Lunn, BFA secretary general, adding that the team has ramped up their practices to daily tactical training in anticipation of squaring off against World No. 6 ranked Switzerland. "This is the first step in the team's preparation for the FIFA 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup."

With the recent addition of Angelo Schirinzi as The Bahamas head coach, long regarded as one of the world's leading experts on sand-based soccer, as well as the addition of the No. 1 ranked player in the world, Heimanu Tariarui, as a trainer, the team is confident they will perform well.

"The event will offer fans the opportunity to see their favorite players face off against top-ranked, world-class players," Lunn said.

A total of 12 players will be selected from the following squad to represent The Bahamas against the Swiss: Torin Ferguson, Alex Thompson, Keith Miller, Renardo McCallum, Dwayne Forbes, LaShane Dean, Gavin Christie, Justin Hoffer, Daron Beneby, Julian Smith, Christopher Davis, Ehren Hanna, Ivan Rolle, Kyle Williams, Lesley St. Fleur, Timmy Munnings, Jean Francois, Valin Bodie, Dominic Bannister, Amo Cartwright, Dolcin Absolu, Gregory Simms, Jarad Higgs, Riche Bolivar and Jamar Townsend.
