Lineup set for Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival kickoff in Grand Bahama

Fri, Apr 1st 2016, 11:46 AM

The Music Masters semi-finals concert will kick off the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival 2016 with the top 20 songs to be performed live from 16 musicians competing for bragging rights and a chance to win the $20,000 grand prize.

The semi-finals will take place April 15 and 16 with an unforgettable weekend of activities on Taino Beach in Grand Bahama.

Day One will also feature a pre-concert show with local bands and DJ Tiko T. and DJ Freeze, and an all star concert with performances by Geno D., Jay Mitchell, Jack Nasty, and Julien Believe and friends. The night will culminate with a Junkanoo rush.

Day two will be packed with even more activities including the Junkanoo Carnival Beach Olympics and beach party during the day, along with an air show, and at night the culmination of the Music Masters Semifinals and performances by local and international artists Shurwayne Winchester, D-Mac, Ronnie Butler, Olatunji and Visage. The weekend will close out with a Junkanoo rushout.

The best 10 contestants will advance from the Carnival kickoff to New Providence, May 5-7 for the Music Masters finals, where the final 20 percent of the score will be determined.

The cost of the semis is $10 per day, which gives patrons all-day access to the Grand Bahama Cultural Village, along with all-day activities for the family. The two-day event will give local and international patrons their first chance to soak up the culture, amp up the music and turn up the vibes this Junkanoo Carnival season.

"We are so excited about the 2016 Grand Bahama Carnival kickoff, a weekend of high energy, new features, and a beautiful display of Bahamian culture and music that will again provide a tremendous economic boost to the island of Grand Bahama," said Ginger M. Moxey, president & CEO, Immerse Bahamas and BNFC Consultant.
