BAHAMAS Junkanoo Carnival will kick off in grand style April 15-16 with a weekend of activities in Grand Bahama at Taino Beach.

“We are so excited about the 2016 Grand Bahama Carnival kick-off, a weekend of high energy, new features, and a beautiful display of Bahamian culture and music that will again provide a tremendous economic boost to the island of Grand Bahama,” said Ginger Moxey, president & CEO of Immerse Bahamas.

Ms. Moxey also serves as a consultant for the Bahamas National Festival Commission (BNFC).

The highlight of the kick-off event is the Music Masters semi-finals concert when the top 20 songs will be performed live.

Sixteen talented Bahamian musicians will compete for bragging rights and a chance to with the $20,000 grand prize. The best 10 contestants will advance from the carnival kick-off to Nassau for the Music Masters finals.

Day one will also feature a pre-concert show with local bands and DJ Tiko T and DJ Freeze and an exciting concert with performances by Geno D, Jay Mitchell, Jack Nasty, Julien Believe and friends.

The night will culminate with a high energy Junkanoo rush.

Day two will be packed with even more activities, including the Junkanoo Carnival Beach Olympics and beach party during the day, along with an air show, and at night the culmination of the Music Masters semi-finals.

There will also be performances by local and international artists Shurwayne Winchester, D-Mac, Ronnie Butler, Olatunji and Visage.

The weekend will close out with another exciting Junkanoo rush-out.

Organisers are working feverishly to ensure this year’s Junkanoo Carnival kick-off is even better than last year, when the event attracted more than 30,000 attendees.

The cost of the event is $10 per day, which gives all day access to the Grand Bahama Cultural Village, along with all day activities for the entire family.

Carnival events in New Providence are scheduled for May 5-7.
