Healthy happy hour: A new way to socialize

Thu, Mar 31st 2016, 10:54 AM

Who would ever think that getting ready to go out on a Friday night could include sweatpants and tennis shoes?
Welcome to the new age Bahamas! With the country ranking with the sixth highest obesity rate in the world, and the nightclub scene becoming increasingly less safe, it is time to look at a new and improved way to socialize and meet people.

On Friday, April 1, Club One Fitness Centre will be hosting a new monthly event. The Healthy Happy Hour was created as a free event to help in educating the public on healthy eating and exercise in a fun and exciting way. The meet and greet includes healthy cooking demonstration, a free workshop with certified personal trainers on how to safely and effectively use gym equipment, hosts of local vendors, a live DJ and of course prizes and giveaways.

The goal of the event is to create a community and support system to help The Bahamas start taking steps to leading a healthier lifestyle. By offering free information on healthy eating and exercise and giving members of the general public the tools and support they need to start making real changes in their lives, Club One hopes to combat the obesity rate and all of the obesity-related diseases that are affecting our community.

Our last event featured Sha King's Healthy Food Demo, Unicity, Naturally Bahamian and Born Again Naturals and ABI Distribution. Guests were invited to a question and answer session with certified health and fitness professionals and were able to sample tasty and healthy treats.

The next Healthy Happy Hour will take place on Friday, April 1 at 6 p.m. at Club One Fitness Centre. It is free to the public. The Happy Hour will continue on the last Friday of each month with a variety of themes and activities throughout the year. Companies are encouraged to register their teams as a corporate wellness event.
