Lineup set for Carnival kickoff in Grand Bahama

Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival 2016 will kick off in grand style April 15 & 16 with an unforgettable weekend of activities in Grand Bahama. The schedule is set for the two-day Carnival kickoff event, which will take place on Taino Beach.

The cost of the event is $10 per day, which gives you all day access to the Grand Bahama Cultural Village, along with all day activities for the entire family. The two-day event will give local and international patrons their first chance to soak up the culture, amp up the music and turn up the vibes this Junkanoo Carnival season.

“We are so excited about the 2016 Grand Bahama Carnival Kickoff, a weekend of high energy, new features, and a beautiful display of Bahamian culture and music that will again provide a tremendous economic boost to the island of Grand Bahama,” said Ginger M. Moxey, President & CEO, Immerse Bahamas and BNFC consultant.

The highlight of the kickoff event is the Music Masters semi-finals concert when the top 20 songs will be performed live.

16 talented Bahamian musicians will compete for bragging rights and a chance to with the $20,000 grand prize. The best ten contestants will advance from the Carnival kickoff to Nassau, May 5-7, for the Music Masters finals, where the final 20 percent of the score will be determined.

Day one will also feature a pre-concert show with local bands and DJ Tiko T and DJ Freeze, and an exciting All Star Concert with performances by Geno D., Jay Mitchell, Jack Nasty, Julien Believe and friends. The night will culminate with a high energy Junkanoo rush.

Day two will be packed with even more activities, including: the Junkanoo Carnival Beach Olympics and Beach Party during the day, along with an air show, and at night the culmination of the Music Masters Semifinals and performances by local and international artists: Shurwayne Winchester, D-Mac, Ronnie Butler, Olatunji and Visage.

The weekend will close out with another exciting Junkanoo rushout.

Organisers of the Grand Bahama Carnival Kickoff are working feverishly to ensure this year’s Junkanoo Carnival Kickoff is even better than last year when the event attracted more than 30,000 attendees.
