The College of The Bahamas (COB) is responding to questions about the status of capital works on the Oakes Field campus, particularly in light of the noticeable absence of workers on the new entryway to the institution.

The college addressed allegations that the work had stopped because the contractors had not been paid since work began on the project.

On Monday, a college spokesperson asserted that the "second" payment would be made on Tuesday. The college assured on Tuesday that payment had been made.

The college also addressed reports that work had been stopped on the new front entrance for two weeks.

"Work was suspended temporarily last week due to a fatal accident of a construction worker at another site. Work is scheduled to resume this week," the college spokesperson said.

"The cost of the new entrance is $1.8 million and is not being financed by a loan," the spokesperson added, in response to questions about the cost and source of funding for the new entryway.

The college also addressed reports that no work has been done on the Franklyn Wilson building for six months.

"The first phase of the contracted work was completed at the end of January," said the college.

"The Franklyn R. Wilson Graduate Center is being built in phases. Phase one was completed at the end of January 2016. The second phase contract is currently being finalized and funding has been identified for its completion," the college spokesperson said.
