CIBC FirstCaribbean Bahamas recently toasted three of its own for their outstanding performance in 2015. Three Bahamian staff members Inger Johnson, Cleopatra Deal, and Marlon Rolle were selected for a trip to Hawaii, where they were celebrated by senior executives of the CIBC Group alongside outstanding CIBC staff from throughout the globe.

The three Bahamian winners received their awards as part of the annual CIBC FirstCaribbean Employee Recognition Programme, known as “Player of the Series.” Ms. Inger Johnson, District Manager for retail won the “Exemplary Leadership Award,” Ms. Cleopatra Deal, Platinum Banking Manager won the “Relationship Management Award” and Mr. Marlon Rolle, Customer Service Officer, won the “Customer Service Award.”

As part of their prize, they were among eight winners from CIBC FirstCaribbean who, together with a guest, travelled to the CIBC Group’s annual CIBC Achievers’ Conference in Maui, Hawaii. The week-long programme combined business sessions and celebratory events and was attended by the company’s top performers and top executives from across the world.

Inger Johnson, District Manager and “Exemplary Leadership Award” winner

“It was the best trip that I have had in years, said Inger Johnson. “We were pampered and treated to a packed roster of activities. We got a lot of face time with the top executives of CIBC, and though there were only a few Caribbean representatives, we really felt the love.”

Ms. Johnson was nominated for her exemplary management of the retail team - which includes fellow winners Cleopatra Deal and Marlon Rolle. Using her involved, open-door style of leadership she helped her team to exceed their sales targets.

“I am ecstatic that three winners were from CIBC FirstCaribbean’s Bahamas retail team. Cleopatra, Marlon, and I could not have won without the help and dedication of the whole team. It really shows that teamwork makes the dream work.”

Cleopatra Deal, a self-described ‘people person’ won the “Relationship Manager Award” and echoed Ms. Johnson saying that the experience was both exciting and humbling.

“My journey to Hawaii can be summed up in one word: amazing!! CIBC International Bank rolled out the red carpet for us. It is so nice to have all the hard work we did throughout the year recognized. I thank the Retail Senior Management for nominating me and my team for helping me come this far.”

Marlon Rolle, Customer Service Officer and winner of the “Customer Service Award.”

Customer Service Award winner Marlon Rolle, who has also won multiple local awards for top card sales and most referral business, said that his prior experience had a large part to play in his success. “Before banking I was in the hotel industry and I brought some of that experience with me; those hospitality skills allow me to really create a full customer experience for clients.”

He said that for others who would like to excel, the keys to success are to “work hard, set priorities, learn your products and your customer, take the work one day at a time and always give it your best. Then, the sky is the limit.”

Ultimately, District Manager Johnson said that she hopes that the awards will inspire Bahamian employees to continue to excel.

“My sincere wish as a leader is to see every employee striving to experience the Hawaii conference. We met many winners who had won multiple times and it is encouraging to see that hard work pays off. I hope that as Cleopatra, Marlon and I share our experiences we can inspire more persons from our team to win, and hopefully to win repeatedly. I encourage my team to continue to work hard and set their standards high so that we can see more persons from the Bahamas as “Players of the Series.”
