Carl's Jr. supports the community with month-long canned food drive

February is officially National Canned Food Month at Carl’s Jr. worldwide. Last week Monday, at the local franchise, customers began bringing in two canned items in exchange for a free cheeseburger as the fast food chain takes part in the global initiative to end hunger.

This is the first year the Nassau branch, operated by AML Foods Ltd., joined in on the effort. The company is partnering with the Bahamas Feeding Network to distribute collected items to feeding programs throughout the country.

Shirlen Godet, Brand Manager at Carl’s Jr. says the drive is picking up steam in its second week. “This is our first year participating in National Canned Food Month and we want to encourage members of the public to come in, donate and enjoy a treat on us—a free Famous Star cheeseburger as a thank you for their generosity. This small act of kindness will make a difference in the lives of local families uncertain of where their next meal will come from,” Godet explained.

“After customers donate, we’re asking them to take selfies and post to the Carl’s Jr. Facebook page using the hashtag #ICanHelp. We also want our patrons to encourage others to bring in donations to aide in this community effort.”

Carl’s Jr. has also teamed up with media partners at the Guardian Group of Companies to garner support and spread the word. To boost the canned food drive during week one, Solomon’s Super Center donated 100 cans, enough to treat each member of their team to a free burger.

Renea Bastian, VP of Marketing & Communications at AML Foods Ltd, is pleased with the initial response to the drive and looks forward to additional support within the coming weeks.

“Thanks to a recent partnership with the Bahamas Feeding Network, we are becoming even more aware of the food shortage needs right here in The Bahamas and the importance of consistent corporate support. This food drive and additional efforts scheduled throughout the year, allows us to engage our customers and to lend support,” Bastian said. “We’d like to thank all of our partners including the Nassau Guardian and the Bahamas Feeding Network who will use their avenues to distribute the collected items. We would also like to thank our customers as they continue to make the month-long food drive a success.”

AML opened the local Carl’s Jr. franchise in May 2014. The business currently employs 28 with plans to break ground on a second New Providence location this year.
