A MAN was remanded to prison without bail yesterday after being charged in connection with the recent gunpoint robbery of a convenience store.

William Johnson, 31, stood before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt facing three counts of armed robbery stemming from the January 27 incident at Jolly’s Convenience Store on Carmichael Road. It is alleged that Johnson, while armed with a handgun, robbed Roselda Rigby of $300 cash belonging to the store as well as her $700 iPhone and a $75 handbag belonging to a patron.

On the day in question, two men armed with a handgun robbed an employee and patron in the store before fleeing in a silver coloured Honda Accord. The two men were reportedly captured on security surveillance. Johnson will not be required to enter a plea to the allegations until he is formally arraigned in the Supreme Court. The matter is expected to be transferred to the higher court at a hearing fixed for March 23.

Johnson was remanded to the Department of Correctional Services in the interim without bail. However, he can apply for bail at the Supreme Court. He has retained Allen Emmanuel to defend him against the allegations.
