POLICE arrested three men and one woman Wednesday night who they suspect of being responsible for a string of recent robberies in the capital.

The “major operation” was led by officers of the Select Enforcement Unit and also resulted in the recovery of a Honda used during the armed robberies and the seizure of a .45 pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean said during the operation, a team acting on information arrested three adult males and an adult female at separate locations in New Providence in connection with several recent armed robberies.

During the arrests, the officers recovered several cell phones stolen during the armed robberies.

Police believed the suspects in this ring are responsible for a string of armed robberies that occurred in New Providence over the past few weeks.

ACP Dean credited the success of “this major breakthrough to excellent teamwork, precise execution of Commissioner Greenslade’s policing priorities and support from members of the public.”

Police are also asking for the public’s help in locating the men responsible for two separate shooting incidents that left two men in hospital.

In the first incident, shortly before 10pm on Wednesday, a man was standing in front of his home in Sunset Park when the occupants of a gold coloured Nissan Teanna vehicle approached and shot him before speeding off.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Then shortly before midnight another man was standing in front of his home on Washington Street when he was shot. The victim was taken to hospital where he is also listed in stable condition.

Investigations are continuing.

Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
