Jurors see graphic images of triple murder

Jurors yesterday saw the gruesome aftermath of a shooting in 2011 that left three people, including a pregnant woman, dead.

Prosecutors say Shawn Knowles and Timmy Saunders forced their way into an apartment off Montgomery Avenue during the dead of night on July 30, 2011 and carried out the brutal crimes. At their trial before Acting Chief Justice Stephen Isaacs, Knowles, who is on bail, and Saunders, who is in custody, denied that they are responsible for the deaths of Edward Brennen, Chackara Rahming and the pregnant woman, Erica Ward.

Knowles alone is charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. In his opening address, prosecutor Randolph Dames told the jurors not to allow sympathy for the victims to cause them to do an injustice to the defendants. Conversely, he said, sympathy toward the defendants should not result in an injustice to the victims.

Inspector Marvin Cargill, the prosecution's first witness, documented the scene with images of gunshot damage to the locks of the door at the rental unit. There was the body of a woman on the living room floor with gunshot wounds to the head. The locks to the bedroom door were also damaged and inside there were two more bodies.

A man was face-down on the floor. He had gunshot wounds to the arms. A woman with gunshot wounds to the head was on the bed. There was a bullet lodged inside the bedframe and blood spatter on the wall.

Ramona Farquharson-Seymour appears for Knowles and Lennox Coleby appears for Saunders. Cordell Frazier also appears for the Crown. The case continues today.
