Fisheries official responds to gill net concerns

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama - A Department of Fisheries official is responding to recent concerns voiced by local fishermen about the use of gill nets in waters off of West End, pointing out that although gill nets are legal, the problem of overfishing is a serious one that should be addressed.

Last week The Freeport News spoke with three fishermen who said they have observed a drastic depletion in the volume of marine life in their waters and made an appeal to the authorities to ban the practice completely.
