Self-absorbed or selfless

At the actual time of writing this particular article, we have recently witnessed quite a few protests at many American colleges and universities, some of which resulted in violence. I thought at the time, that the behavior of many of the students and indeed some of the faculty was outrageous. Then the president of one of the universities resigned.

Finally, one gentleman, Everett Piper, president of Oklahoma Weslyn University stood up to these ridiculous campus bullies and dared to tell it like it is in a great address to his students. He said, among other things in a stern rebuttal of many U.S. university students, that they need to be, and I quote, "Self-less not self-absorbed." Oh how right he was.

Now my friend let me ask you a very important question which I want you to reflect on for a while and then answer with complete candor. Now here's the question. Upon reflection, would you say that you are self-absorbed or self-less? Well my friend, what's your honest answer to that oh so important question. I do sincerely hope and pray, that you are self-less and not self-absorbed.

So D. Paul, what exactly do you mean by that? Well what I mean, and what Everett Piper meant I believe, is this -- instead of being totally obsessed with yourself and your needs and rights, why don't you concentrate a whole lot more on how your actions affect others and the overall good of your community, town, city, or country.

Yes indeed, I honestly believe that too many people and especially young people are totally absorbed with themselves -- it's all about me, me, me. Once we fully understand the law of cause and effect we should commence each and every day with an attitude of giving, of making a worthwhile contribution to others, instead of being totally self-absorbed with our own needs. Yes indeed, we need to be self-less not self-absorbed.
