It took months of planning and some creative fundraising for the Solomon’s Fresh Market Kids Who Care Club and The Community School to feed 40 meals to 40 families in the Bain & Grants Town community. Efforts included a well-planned flash mob at the retail outlet back in November where the kids entertained customers while collecting funds to complete their mission.

Just days before Christmas, 25 kids and 10 adult volunteers formed an assembly line at St. Agnes Anglican Church’s hall room to pack, organize and distribute 40 hot meals to families in need. The idea originated from The Community School and the kids club teamed up with them to successfully execute the donation.

Angela Lightbourn, event organizer and Marketing Coordinator at Solomon’s Fresh Market said ending the year by giving back was special not only for the recipients but also for the kids.

“A big push in the group is for us to help our kids develop compassion and to inspire them to volunteer and to give back. This particular initiative allowed them to think of creative ways to raise the funds and the discipline involved in planning the event and successfully executing the goal,” Lightbourn said.

Solomon’s Fresh Market started the Kids Who Care Club in 2014 as a way to inspire, equip and mobilize kids to take actions that impact the earth, animals and community.

“I would like to say “Well Done!” to the kid volunteers and a special thank you to our valued customers, our partners at The Community School and the team at St. Agnes Church for allowing us the space to give back.”
