Haitian, Cuban migrants apprehended

Defense force officers apprehended 76 suspected illegal Haitian and Cuban migrants earlier this week, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) said Wednesday night.

RBDF officials apprehended 69 Haitians at 11 p.m. on a vessel 13 nautical miles off Hog Cay, Long Island on Tuesday. The group, made up of 60 men and nine women, was later transported to New Providence.

On Wednesday, RBDF officials caught seven Cuban nationals on Anguilla Cay at 1 p.m. The migrants told officials that they were on the cay for seven days. The RBDF said the group, made of up of five men and two women, was in good health. They were also transported to Freeport, Grand Bahama.
