BAIC hosts Product Development Workshop

True to its mission to stimulate, facilitate and encourage the creation, expansion and development of small and medium sized business enterprises in The Bahamas (SME), the Bahamas Agriculture and Industrial Corporation (BAIC) hosted a one day seminar on Product Development and Food Processing at its Headquarters on Old Trail Road.

The areas of general business development covered in this intensive one day workshop were the principles of food processing; product packing, labeling, presentation and demonstration; the principles of product development; preservation of fruits and vegetables; starting a business in the cottage industry; product marketing and the principles of business plan preparation.

Facilitated by Mr. Arnold Dorsett, BAIC Assistant General Manager, Agricultural Department, Presenters included Dr. Patricia Johnson, Manager of the Product Development Unit at BAIC; Keith Daley, Senior Food Technologist in the Department of Fisheries; Leslie Minnis, Marketing Manager and Mona Nixon, Senior Officer at BAIC. Additionally, a number of presentations and demonstrations were delivered by the staff at BAIC and participating entrepreneurs in the agriculture and food processing cottage industries.

Local entrepreneurs were all smiles as they received their certificates from BAIC upon successful completion of an intensive one day workshop on Product Development and Food Processing hosted by that corporation’s Agricultural Department and Product Development Unit.
