Jury selection continues in trial of McCartney murder accused

Jury selection in the trial of five people charged in relation to the murder of pharmacist Kurt McCartney continues today.
Twelve jurors were selected yesterday, but the 48-member panel was exhausted before three alternates could be selected. Some of the jurors could not sit because they had prior travel commitments or knew the witnesses in the case; others were challenged without cause.

Bailiffs and policemen took to the streets to get jurors to supplement the panel. However, the jury selection process was adjourned until 11 a.m. as only four talesmen had been selected.

Jury selection was unable to start on Monday because the jury panel was short by 29 of the required 48.

Lyndera Curry, Sumya Ingraham, Thorne Edwards and Okell Farrington are accused of the October 24, 2013 murder and armed robbery of McCartney, whose 2007 Hummer was taken at gunpoint at the time of his death, according to police.

McCartney, the brother of Democratic National Alliance Leader Branville McCartney, was shot and killed in Gambier Village. A few hours after his murder, police found his Hummer east of Traveller's Rest restaurant. A fifth person, Terry Delancy, the owner of Virgo Car Rental, was charged with being an accessory after the fact. He is accused of enabling Curry, Ingraham, Edwards and Farrington to avoid due process of the law. He is on $15,000 bail.

Roger Thompson is the prosecutor. Sonia Timothy appears for Curry, Ramona Farquharson-Seymour for Ingraham, Terrell Butler for Edwards, Phillip Hilton for Farrington and Ian Cargill for Delancy.
