A 17-year-old male was yesterday charged with three murders, including that of Queen's College teacher Joyelle McIntosh.
The juvenile's 28-year-old brother stood with him during his initial appearance before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt. The juvenile's 45-year-old mother was disqualified from standing as a guardian because she is charged with child neglect in relation to the accused.

Prosecutors say the teen, Johnny Mackey, 25, and Armando Sargent, 21, are responsible for the November 11 murder of McIntosh, which allegedly occurred during an attempted armed robbery. Prosecutors say they were trying to take McIntosh's 2009 Toyota Corolla.

The fourth grade teacher's car crashed into a wall after she was shot on Parkgate Road, off Village Road. The three males are also accused of the murder of Demyko Munroe and the attempted murder of Marcian Rolle, which occurred shortly after McIntosh's at White's Addition. They are accused of taking goods and cash valued at $440 from Rolle during an armed robbery.

The teen alone is charged with the November 13 murder of Adrian "Fish" Munroe in Elizabeth Estates. Sargent was charged by himself with the April 30 murder of Thiffeon Johnson at St. Margaret Road. The men were unrepresented at yesterday's hearing and were not required to enter pleas to the charges.

Addressing the magistrate, the defendants alleged they were victims of police brutality. They claimed that police beat them and suffocated them by holding doubled plastic fish bags over their heads to force them to sign confessions.

The teen added that he was questioned without a guardian present. He said although attorney Richard Lightbourn surrendered him to police, Lightbourn was not present during his interrogation. In response to a question from the court, the teen said he was not in school and had been expelled from the SURE program, which is designed for children who display disruptive behavior.

Ferguson-Pratt made note of the complaints and remanded the men into custody.
