Officials and organizers of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Bahamas Volleyball Federation (BVF), along with representatives from J.S. Johnson Insurance Limited, will present the second annual National High School Volleyball "Tournament of Champions" on November 19-21, at the D.W. Davis and C.I. Gibson gymnasiums. The event is sponsored by J.S. Johnson.

A total of 12 teams, six male and six female, from across the country, will compete for the title this year. Teams will come from the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools (BAISS), the Government Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA), and the Bahamas Scholastic Association (BSA), in New Providence; and the Grand Bahama Secondary Schools Athletic Association (GBSSAA), in Grand Bahama.

The tournament will be played in a round-robin format in the preliminary round, with the top teams in each pool advancing to the playoffs.

Evon Wisdom, the head of the sports unit at the ministry, stated: "It is with great pleasure that we announce this event which will bring together top high school volleyball players in the country. The best teams in our leagues will participate in high level competition, and all of the teams that will participate are championship contending teams."

Director of Education Lionel Sands commended J.S. Johnson for its support, stating: "Whatever we do in the Department of Education, it is enhanced greatly by corporate partners. When J.S. Johnson decided to help us in mounting this event we were quite pleased. There is no way in the world we can host such an event without our corporate partners."

Robert Bartlett, senior manager of customer service at J.S. Johnson, reinforced the company's corporate philosophy of community outreach.

"J.S. Johnson has been around since 1919, 96 years this year, and we feel like we are responsible corporate citizens. We kept this in mind when we were approached for this venture. Through our staff and management, we encourage corporate and civic activity on behalf of building our nation. We are here to support the building of our nation through sports and entertainment." said Bartlett.

With such collaboration between the public and private spheres, it can be expected that the tournament will achieve a great level of success.
