Shipyard Golf Tournament Raises $10,000 Toward Urban Renewal

Last weekend 75 golfers participated in the annual Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBS) Golf Tournament, which raised in excess of $10,000 for Grand Bahama Urban Renewal. Although the tournament has been an annual event for the past few years, this was the first year that proceeds were donated to a cause, and as a result organisers of the tournament were happy to see an increase in golfers this year.

“The tournament couldn’t have had a better day to play,” said Evan Baumberger, Tournament Organiser. “Perhaps for some it was a little warm, but for the avid golf enthusiast, it was a wonderful day. There was plenty of food made available by the Grand Lucayan Resort, Molly Malone’s, Mrs. Tiffany Dickinson and Mrs. Jacqueline Legault-Byrd.”

The tournament staff expressed their deepest appreciation to both the sponsors as well as to volunteers who all helped to ensure expedient play as well as ensuring that a great time was had by all.

Winners of the sixth annual tournament were Leroy Simmons and Paul Bowe with Zack and DeSean Smith placing second.

Terrance Bullard and Osbourne Cooper rounded out the top three. Anthony Sam won the award for the longest drive and Ian Walls won the nearest-to-the-pin competition on hole #8 and Stacy Schrader won the nearest-to-the-pin competition on hole #17. David Lloyd also won a “putt off” against four other players.

“This is the sixth year the event has taken place, however this year we were able, with the help of all the participants and sponsors, to raise in excess of $10,000 dollars,” noted Reuben Byrd Tournament Chair and COO of GBS, “which will be donated to Urban Renewal for their ongoing projects in the Grand Bahama community.”
