In a world of instant, fast and deep fried foods getting kids to eat healthy is a challenge facing most parents. And while fresh and organic options are readily available on island, many local parents struggle with planning meals that are healthy and appealing to kids.

Recently, the team at Solomon’s Fresh Market joined forces with Chef Corey Small, owner of My Kid’s Lunchbox, for a food preparation demo at the Harbour Bay location. The session focused on quick, easy and tasty recipes the entire family can enjoy.

“We’ve listened to the feedback from shoppers, particularly moms, who are seeking to introduce healthy eating habits to their children at an early age. They want options that are not only organic and affordable but that the kids will actually want to eat,” said Angela Lightbourn, marketing coordinator of Solomon’s Fresh Markets.

“Through our Eye On Health series, we can engage customers and get immediate feedback on our products and services. By teaming up with Chef Small, we were able to show parents simple ways to add fresh fruit, vegetables and tasty organic treats to the daily food mix.”

At the demo, parents and kids sampled curry chicken wraps on whole-wheat pitas, a twist on cheesecake made with fresh strawberries and organic graham crackers and a blueberry and granola parfait.

For Chef Small, education is the key factor for parents when introducing healthy foods. “We want to encourage families to adopt healthier lifestyle choices. In order to change the mindset on food choices, we must not only provide tasty alternatives but also show our children that one good choice leads to another. I would like to thank Solomon’s Fresh Market for providing us with an avenue to educate and demonstrate how eating the proper foods can be easy and fun.”

Solomon’s Fresh Markets’ Eye On Health series focuses on educating and demonstrating food, fitness and nutritional tips to customers. Persons interested in attending future events should visit http://www.solomonsfreshmarkets.com/eyesonhealth.html to sign up.
