The Cat Island Sailing Association continues to invest in the youth of Cat Island by awarding academic scholarships. For the second consecutive year, and with the help of the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC), the association has provided financial assistance to four young people who hail from the island, with each student being granted $500.

The students are all enrolled at the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institution (BTVI). Recipients are Annfernique Stubbs who is enrolled in the Office Assistant program; Shaquell Rolle, Esthetics; Qukrinka Williams, Information Technology; and Angelo Calixte, Electronics Engineering and Installers Repair.

Association president Pat "The Centreville Assassin" Strachan believes the awardees represent the future of Cat Island and are worth investing in. All four students are 2015 high school graduates, with three having attended the Old Bight High School and one having attended Arthur's Town High School. The administration of both schools selected the students, amounting to a total of eight being assisted by the association over the past two years.

Meanwhile, BTVI Acting President Dr. Iva Dahl thanked the association for its continued efforts to educate its own. Furthermore, she encouraged the students to remain focussed during their pursuit of higher learning.
