In response to the devastation in the southern Bahamas from Hurricane Joaquin, the Lyford Cay Foundation, Inc. has pledged up to $100,000 to the relief efforts. As it has done in the past with similar disasters that have affected The Bahamas, the Foundation will provide both short term emergency relief to assist with the wide-spread damage and immediate needs of those affected, as well as broader, long-term assistance.

Aligned with its mission to support learning opportunities for Bahamians, the Foundation will utilize its grants program in the months to come to assist with rebuilding the lives of children in the affected areas, their education and the normalization of schools. The Foundation's goal with the grants is to help ensure that children throughout the country will be able to continue their education during this rebuilding period.

"At the Foundation we appreciate that recovery from the effects of Hurricane Joaquin will be a complex, ongoing process, however, by coming together as a caring community, we will work to assist those in need," said Basil P. Goulandris, chairman of Lyford Cay Foundation.

Lyford Cay Foundation, Inc. and The Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation (the Foundations) are private philanthropic organizations established in 1969 and 1977, respectively. The Foundations' mission is to invest in learning opportunities for children, young adults, families and communities, all made possible by the generosity of donors.

Through a variety of programs, the Foundations assist children in school as they prepare for college, students leaving school with scholarships to attend college in The Bahamas and abroad, and non-profits providing learning opportunities in their communities. To date more than $45 million has been invested in the lives of Bahamians.
