NEMA Heads Another Assessment Team to Acklins and Crooked Island

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, headed another assessment team to the hurricane-ravaged areas of Acklins and Crooked Island, on Tuesday, October 06, 2015.

Prime Minister the Rt. Hon Perry Christie and members of his Cabinet accompanied the Director of NEMA Captain Stephen Russell, travelling in three separate flights into those areas hard hit by the storm to determine the extent of damage and the assistance needed to rebuild.

Amongst those who travelled were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Urban Development the Hon. Philip Davis; Minister of National Security the Hon. Dr. Bernard Nottage; Minister of Tourism the Hon. Obie Wilchcombe; Minister of Transport and Aviation the Hon. Glenys Hanna Martin; Minister of Social Services and Community Development the Hon. Melanie Griffin; Minister of Health the Hon. Dr. Perry Gomez; other Government Officials, technical representatives from the Department of Civil Aviation; the Bahamas Department of Meteorology, Department of Environmental Services, Bahamas Telecommunications Company and other related areas; and members of the media.

Also, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force accompanied an airplane loaded with emergency supplies such as food and water into those areas.

An update will be issued once the team returns to New Providence.

Assessments of the hurricane impacted areas in the southern and central Bahamas began Saturday, October 3.
