That wonderful, wacky bunch is at it again.
James Catalyn and Friends presents "Summer Madness" Revue 2015 at the Dundas Centre for the Performing Arts, tonight and Saturday at 8 p.m. nightly. And this latest "Summer Madness Revue", promises to be just as hysterically hilarious and thought provoking as past revues.
Taking a satirical look at typical, topical and timely topics as it relates to Bahamian life, the production delivers not only laughs, but also social commentary that shine a light on various aspects of life that are usually overlooked.
Corns will be mashed and bunions stepped on with Catalyn's unique way of looking at circumstances through his writing.
"It is better for us to laugh at wesef, than to have others do it to us," says Catalyn.
This year's revue has brought Catalyn out of retirement to direct the production, and he has taken Valerie Pinder-Lines and Juliet Holmes under his wings to assist him.
The cast is a mix of generations ranging from veteran members with more than 20 years performing with the group, to a younger generation. Cast members include Geneen Evans, Juliet Holmes, Antoinette Knowles, Valerie Pinder-Lynes, Shornelle Nesbitt, Kimberly Duncombe, Neil Cleare, Chigozie Ijeoma, Sony Jean-Jacques, Dwain Wallace, Dion Farquharson, Jevon Buter and newly initiated Yolanda Pawar-Bain, Nikolette Elden and Rakel Dean.
James Catalyn and Friends Theatrical Group has been a tour-de-force on the theatrical scene in The Bahamas for the past 35 years. The group is presently the country's leading troupe in ethnic Bahamian theater, and is the trailblazer in exposing theatrical performances to many of the Family Islands. They have performed on every stage throughout The Bahamas, including several garden performances at private affairs and staging outdoor theater at many festivals and homecomings.
As the group seeks to maintain the legacy of its mentor, over the years other aspiring writers, Jevon Butler, Dwain Wallace, Trevann Thompson and Juliet Holmes have seen their works performed as a part of one the Summer Madness Revues. Two of Homles' pieces will be presented in this year's production.
Catalyn's troupe has thrilled audiences at the Dundas with their annual "Summer Madness" Revues for the past 32 consecutive years.
Tickets priced at $25 are available at the box office at the Dundas, Mackey Street, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Children and babies are not allowed admission.
