An inmate was found dead inside his cell at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services on Saturday, according to Patrick Wright, the commissioner of correctional services.

In a statement, Wright said Christopher Andrew Kemp was found unresponsive inside his cell at 12 p.m. A medical officer was contacted and examined the body and pronounced Kemp dead, he said. Wright said a cause of death remained unknown. Kemp was on remand, Wright said.

"All other inmates at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services remain in safe custody," he said.
