After suffering a severe leg injury in his last fight, local boxer Meacher "Major Pain" Major announced this weekend that he is ready to lace up his boots and step back into the ring.

Although the date and venue have not been named as yet, Major said he has confirmed the fight with his opponent, Glenroy Beckford of Jamaica, and the fight is going under the title "The Caribbean Showdown". Major and Beckford are no strangers to each other, having squared off back in 2005 at the Wyndham Resort where Major won via second round TKO.

At 33, Major said he feels he still has a lot left in the tank and that his fans will have a lot to look forward to when he gets back in the ring.

"People can expect a great exciting event. I'm excited to be back; I have a lot of people to thank. First, I like to thank almighty God. I'm excited for my new team, and I'd like to thank Sports Nutrition Bahamas. We're looking forward to putting on a great show," he said, "I'm returning to the ring and it's something I love doing and hopefully I can inspire a new generation at the Major Pain Boxing Club.

"I'm going to take it to the next level. I know he's coming in thinking this is a grudge match. I think he was robbed, so I have to really make a statement this time around. Bahamian fans won't want to miss this fight. As soon as we get set on a sanctioned day, I'll be ready to go."

In his last bout against Roger Rosa at "Pain and Glory Part II: The Revenge", Major suffered torn ligaments in his right foot that forced him to sit out the last eight months. Although originally ruled a TKO loss, the fight against Rosa was declared a no contest due to the fact that Major was ahead on the scorecards at the time of the injury. During his time out, Major created the Major Pain Boxing club with the intention of keeping youth off the streets. Since its inception, the club has seen consistent growth, with more and more new fighters signing up every week.

"With all of the problems going on in our country, I just want to be able to help the youth in our society. I just want to continue what I've always been doing with the youths in our society. With the club, I can get some more competitive boxers in the amateur system," he said. "It's about that generation and inspiring them, because the young guys I train, they inspire me. There are a lot of great upcoming young fighters that are really sharp."

The Major Pain Boxing Club is located next to Super Value, Top of the Hill, Mackey Street.
