Grand Bahamian students who intend to pursue higher education in engineering and related fields, and those students who show some degree of interest and proficiency in technical-related fields have geared up to participate in the Grand Bahama arm of the Technical Cadets Corps Programme (TCCP), a three-year program through which students from public and private secondary schools study electrical engineering, mechanical technology, engineering drawing, engineering science and electronics.

TCCP is a three-year program for tenth grade students who can enroll, once they maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 and above. The program also creates an option for students who might otherwise drop out of the school system for any number of social reasons; provides exposure for students who show interest and who intend to pursue higher education in engineering and related fields; and establishes and reinforces the kinds of discipline and attitudes necessary for job enrichment and national development.

Bishop Joseph Hall is the assistant director of the Grand Bahama TCCP that was established in 1994, and is sponsored by the BTC and the Grand Bahama Power Company with the goal of expanding the pool of technically qualified persons in The Bahamas.

Grand Bahama's TCCP has expanded its reach and acts as a feeder program for private sector partners like Statoil, the Grand Bahama Shipyard, Hutchinson Port Holdings, FOCOL and PharmaChem Technologies Ltd., who facilitate the apprentices with on the job training. Additionally, some companies award international technical scholarships, and provide employment opportunities for cadets who successfully complete the program.

Classes are held twice weekly for twelfth grade students on Mondays and Wednesdays; and for tenth and eleventh grade students on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. All classes are held between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the St. George's High School. Interested persons are asked to contact their school's guidance counselor and/or principal's office or email: TechnicalCadetCorps@gmail.com.
