Schools to open September 7th

This just in, the Ministry of Education has pushed back the opening of all government schools to Monday September 7th, the announcement made a short while ago by Education Minister Jerome Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald told members of the media, the opening is being pushed back a week "due to the threat of Hurricane Erika and ongoing school repairs." Administrators and teachers are expected to return to school on Wednesday Sept 2.

Orientation for seventh through 10th graders will be held on Thursday September 3rd and on Friday September 4th, for 8 through 11th graders. Fitzgerald said he is confident that all school repairs will be completed by the opening of the school year, with exception of two schools - A.F. Adderley Jr. High and Rum Cay All age where extensive repairs have to be done. Public schools were scheduled to open on Monday August 31.We will have more on today's announcement in tomorrow morning's paper.
