The Bahamasw Department of Meterology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from 11:55AM EDT until 2:00PM Thursday, August 28, 2015.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE ISLANDS BIMINI, GRAND BAHAMA, BERRY ISLANDS, NORTHERN ABACO AND THEIR ADJACENT WATERS.

At 11:50 AM observations, radar and satellite imagery showed lines/clusters of well organized thunderstorms moving NorthEastwards associated with a surface trough.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightening, heavy downpours and flooding in low-lying areas, hail and possible waterspout or tornado activity.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lighting conductors.
