NASSAU, The Bahamas - In this first year of the Annual Public School Scholarship Awards, Minister of Education, Science and Technology the Hon. Jerome Fitzgerald recognized top achievers who hailed from public schools in Nassau and Grand Bahama -- more than 90 percent of whom were the first in their families to attend college. He announced the award winners at a special ceremony at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium on August 17.

Minister Fitzgerald said the Government of The Bahamas through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and its partners in the scholarship programme -- Holland College in Canada, Monroe College in New York, Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, and Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas -- will invest close to $1.4 million dollars in scholarships for public school recipients over the next four years, said Minister Fitzgerald.
