Mrs. Dawn Davies to be awarded 2015 "Woman of Distinction" Award

Celebrating Woman International (CWI) a subsidiary of TKHGFI nonprofit organization, announced plans today to award Mrs. Dawn Davies with the “Woman of Distinction Award” 2015 for her outstanding accomplishments professionally and within the community.

Mrs. Dawn Davies was born in Nassau, New Providence, to a Scottish father and a Bahamian mother. She attended St. Andrew’s School in Nassau, and is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland and has an MBA from the University of Miami, Florida.

Mrs. Davies was active in the financial services sector in The Bahamas for over 35 years. She was a member of the Executive Committee of The Bankers Club for some six years, culminating in her election as its President. She retired in 2000 but continues to serve as a director on various corporate boards and investment funds.

An enthusiastic supporter and a keen collector of Bahamian art, she is well known among visual artists in The Bahamas. In 2003, she received the E. Clement Bethel Award from the School of Communication and Creative Arts of the College of The Bahamas for excellence in the arts. In 2012 she published a comprehensive book, titled Love & Responsibility, The Dawn Davies Collection, celebrating Bahamian art as seen through her collection. This was followed in 2014 by TABLESCAPES Just for Fun, a personal lighthearted approach to entertaining in her home and garden.

Very much interested in the creative community, Mrs. Davies is a supporter of Bahamian culture in the area of, but not limited to films, plays and books. She is on the Board of The Harry Moore Scholarship Committee, Popopstudios International Center for the Visual Arts, The Charitable Arts Foundation, and is an active member of The Bahamas National Trust, B.R.E.E.F., The Nassau Garden Club, The Bahamas Historical Society and The Nassau Music Society.

Founded in 2013, Celebrating Woman International aims to mobilize and inspire women across the globe, to honor, recognize and celebrate the contributions of women, leveraging their untapped leadership capabilities in order for them to thrive in the world so that they can lead productive lives.

Celebrating Woman International goals are to:

• Unite, connect, engage and inspire women to honor and celebrate themselves and other women worldwide.

• Expand women’s global business and leadership opportunities.

• Create a virtual “Celebrating Woman” Worldwide Center & Hall of Honor by 2020..

• Provide a one-of-a-kind global education initiative focused on honoring differences.

• Inspire a spirit of service and giving among women.

“Celebrating Woman International thinks honoring women for their accomplishments and hard work is a wonderful way to thank and inspire other women within the community. These awards are intended to do that. The selected honourees have demonstrated an untiring zeal for service to the community and inspire us through their selfless commitment to improving the lives of others,” Celebrating Woman International Corporate Secretary, Collin Smith said.

During the month of October, the “Woman of Distinction Awards” will be awarded to women who have made significant contributions in the following categories: arts; business; finance & trade; religion; law; civics; media and sports in The Bahamas.

During the month of September, Celebrating Woman International will announce the names of all the honorees and give more details about the upcoming events.
