NASSAU, Bahamas -- In an effort to encourage interest in mathematics, Consolidated Water Co. Ltd. (NASDAQ: CWCO), was a major sponsor of S.C. McPherson Junior High School's Fourth Annual Interschool Mathematics Competition. The company, which develops and operates seawater desalination and water distribution systems, supported the nearby school as it celebrated Mathematics Month under the theme "Mathematics to the Core."
The initiative was launched to revitalize mathematics within the junior high schools and raise awareness of the importance of mathematical skills to later life. Throughout the month the teachers and students of S.C. McPherson engaged in fun educational activities to promote numeracy, culminating in the Annual Interschool Mathematics Competition hosted by the school in its auditorium.
CWCO's donation helped to defray the cost of the competition, going towards door prizes, decorations, refreshments and gifts for the participants, winners, judges and moderator. CWCO General Manager Bryan Russell said that the company is happy to support mathematics education given how important a strong math foundation is to industry, and to the future.
"CWCO views encouraging strong mathematics education as an investment. The 'mathletes' of today, with hard work and drive, will become tomorrow's engineers. We are a reverse osmosis company serving and hiring Bahamians since 1996. We know how essential a foundation in math is in our industry and in many others. We see sponsorship of S.C. McPherson's Mathematics Competition as a way to inspire young people to be more than proficient in math, but to enjoy it and excel at it. It is our hope that the students take this experience and continue drive to succeed."
