Just three days after being reelected to a fifth term, FIFA President Sepp Blatter announced he will resign his post in a surprise press conference at the organization's headquarters in Zurich.

In his announcement, Blatter said he was resigning because of the massive corruption scandal that has engulfed FIFA, and that "I appreciate and love FIFA more than anything else and only want to do the best."

An ongoing investigation into corruption in world soccer resulted in the indictments of more than a dozen people closely associated with the sport's governing body, including several current and former members.
