HBO kicks off Summer with its June Movie Lineup

Fri, May 29th 2015, 11:05 AM

Saturday nights are for HBO. During the month of June, HBO delivers action, horror, comedy and sci-fi hits to the screen each Saturday at 21:00 hrs. AST*, exclusively in the Caribbean.

Denzel Washington stars in The Equalizer (Saturday, June 6), an action thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, King Arthur) based on the series of the same name. While attempting to put his dangerous past behind him, retired black ops agent Robert McCall (Washington) crosses paths with teenager Alina (Chloë Grace Moretz), a sex trafficking victim under control of the Russian Mafia. Although McCall promised his recently deceased wife that he would leave his old life behind, he feels he has to save Alina.

In the sci-fi horror film directed by James DeMonaco, The Purge: Anarchy (Saturday, June 13), the government allows its citizens to commit any crime they wish once a year – including murder – without fear of punishment or imprisonment. Leo (Frank Grillo), who lost his son and now plans revenge during this year’s purge, instead ends up protecting four strangers who desperately need his help in order to survive the terrifying night. Also starring Michael K. Williams (HBO’s The Wire and Boardwalk Empire), Carmen Ejogo (HBO’s Boycott), Zach Gilford and Kiele Sanchez.

The MTV Award-winning comedy Neighbors (Saturday, June 20) follows the lives of new parents Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne), who try to remain civil when the Delta Psi Beta Fraternity moves next door. It isn’t until they call the cops during a particularly rambunctious party that frat president Teddy (Zac Efron) starts a full-blown war against them – one that seems to have no end. Directed by Nicholas Stoller.

Godzilla (Saturday, June 27) takes place in the present day, years after a discovery that leads to the awakening of two giant creatures. After being kept secret by the U.S. over the years, these radiation-eating beasts come face-to-face with a larger and more destructive alpha predator known as Godzilla. The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad).
